(More details to come)

    What will happen ?

The Re-Joyce’ing Nature training course consists in a 15-day immersion experience in a multicultural group that will experience life in a secluded farm in the forest. It will take place in the island of Skiathos, Greece from May the 24th to June 07th 2022 (+ 2 Travel days before and 2 after if “Green” means of travel used, 1 Travel days before and 1 after in any other case ) and will gather 40 people (youth workers and leaders) from Greece, Italy, Romania, France, Bulgaria, Belgium and Malta.

These will be mostly members of the partner organisations and/or members of civil society organisations that run mobility projects dealing with permaculture, agroforestry or sustainable development, interested in developing social, cultural and ecological projects, intercultural education and youth participation in a nearby future. The age, gender and cultural context will be diverse and will depend on the country of origin, aiming nevertheless at maintaining gender equality if possible.

The training will allow participants to develop their knowledge of Permaculture design, water management, regenerative agriculture, successional agroforestry from a theoretical and practical point of view, develop their ecological literacy in an empowering way, strengthen their skills in facilitation, communication and mediation and develop their practical intelligence (know-how), their critical spirit and their sense of initiative. The impact will also be very big for the organisations the participants are involved in but also the youngsters they have in their groups as their youth workers will come back full of ideas and motivation, ready to disseminate their new skills and let their organisations profit from the networking done during the training, surely the beginning of long lasting collaboration and friendship !

Some of the subjects we will discover together are :

    • The fundamental principles of Permaculture design, regenerative agriculture, successional agroforestry
    • Advanced concepts in science and technology developed by the permaculture curriculum from several scientific and practical backgrounds as topography, agriculture engineering, biology (soil biology, microbiology, botany), ecology, chemistry, climatic sciences, natural and hydraulic engineering, appropriate machinery etc.
    • How to design, prepare and plant different gardening methods
    • Several techniques of water management and how to design and implement them
    • Waste management techniques, including compost and natural fertilization
    • Wetland restoration strategies
    • Risk assessment strategies (fire, mudslides, flooding etc.)
    • The main difficulties encountered by project coordinators in the implementation of their project and the factors
    • contributing to their success
    • The interconnections between socio-economic and environmental issues and the labour market
    • The concept of ecological footprint and its challenges
    • Ways to make the transition from being dependent consumers to responsible citizens
    • Educational tools for citizenship / living together
    • A multitude of energizers and team-building activities
    • Methods and tools for: (1) group decision making (2) a fair division of tasks and responsibilities within a group (creation of commissions, setting up of roles, rotation of tasks …) (3) expressing oneself within the group, identifying the fears of the members of the collective, conflict prevention and management (peer exchange groups, circle of regulation, circle expression …) (4) recognition of learning outcomes and the evaluation of an action.

A lot of intercultural moments will be shared as the participants and 2 days will be dedicated to connect with local nature (with an excursion to the beach while foraging plants in the forest) and to the local community (with a party).

    Who is the trainer/facilitator ?

The principal facilitator for this training will be Giuseppe Sannicandro (Italy), co-founder of Naumanni Association, Regen
Association and tutor for Permaculture Diploma, recognized by the Italian Permaculture Academy (Accademia Italiana di
    Permacultura).

obtained a Degree in Permaculture Design in Tenerife in 2015. Since 2012 he studies, designs and teaches Permaculture
in Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Slovenia, Spain, Uganda and Brasil. He designs and offers consultancies for multifunctional
farms, eco-villages and urban permaculture projects among others. Moreover, he organizes and teaches PDCs (certified
72 hour Permaculture Design Course), as well as courses and workshops about water management, key-line design,
earthworks, soil improvement, regenerative agriculture, gardening, agroforestry and food forest.

(More details to come)

    What will happen ?

The Joyce’full melting pot training course consists in a 14-day immersion experience in a multicultural group that will experience life in a newborn, wannabe permaculture and regenerative agriculture farm. It will take place in the island of Skiathos, Greece from the 21st of April to the 5th of May 2022 and will gather 30 people (youth workers and leaders) from Greece, Romania, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Belgium.

During the 4 first days, we will infuse storytelling, singing, dancing and playing with the spirit of freedom, permaculture, compassionate communication (based on Marshall Rosenberg’s nonviolent communication), positive framing, sociocracy (collective decision-making), personal response-ability, awareness, participatory leadership, agile learning, composting, upcycling…and whatever else comes up in order to connect our community.
The rest of the training will be a mix of theory and practice of different kind of Natural building techniques using wood, stones, clay and other material found onsite. The pic point will be the building of the “main square” of the farm and its bench.

    Who are the trainers/facilitators ?

    Kompostina (Tina Lymberis): Eco-artistic story-teller and tribe-builder

“I love living among people who are having fun and doing what they love! Since permaculture gave me the tools to achieve this in my own life, I started spreading it through my blog, the translation of a permaculture guide, a musical theatrical called Kompostopia and through facilitating tribe-building experiences in Greece. My toolkit for guiding groups along their personal, social and environmental evolution includes Compassionate Communication, Permaculture, Sociocracy, Agile Learning, the Transition Movement, the Art of Hosting and the most primitive tools of social bonding: singing, dancing and playing! More background info here.”

Andreas Papachristou, member of the Stagones Social Cooperative (Natural Building and Organic Farming) and initiator of the Hara-Goe project, an educational, cultural and artistic hub on Evia island, Greece.

“When I decided to live close to nature, natural building for creating a shelter for me and my family was the obvious choice. Not only because of the many advantages (low imprint, use of local, organic materials, creation of healthy and friendly living spaces) but also because we valued the process of imagining, designing and constructing our home with the help of our friends. When people are able to build homes and cultivate food, they are regaining strength and meaning. In that aspect, natural building is extending beyond the obvious of the practical, to realms of self-knowledge and collectivity. This is something I like to point out during the workshops I give and it is always reflected in the dynamic of the group.”

Who is part of the consortium?

Greek participants will be selected by and represent two organisations, Joyce ‘n’ Fun and Stagones.

Belgian participants will be selected by and represent Les débris-colleurs . Degré 47

  • Olive trees pruning – DIY

When ? We did it in January, it is a good time for the olive trees. January is the month after the harvesting olives, and during this month, in winter, we can see the dead branches and cut them.

How ? There are different steps

    Observation

as in permaculture, taking good care of the trees means you have to understand how it works, how the energy from the soil and from the trunk goes to the last leaves at the top of the tree, how it grows, how it gets week.

    Olive oil objective

    • Little / if you want to collect the olives, these fruit shouldn’t be to far from the ground ! So you need the tree to stay little, and its branch to grow always horizontally ! If the branch goes to the sky, the olives will stay there.
    • Sunny / the olive trees need have access the light of the sun and breathe properly. That’s why you also need to have no more then 3 or 4 big branches growing from the trunk. The light should be able to enter in the center of the tree.
    • Strong / the branches far from the trunk need to have energy and food, that’s why you need to remove all the little branches that are growing above. They will take all the energy of the branches that will produce olives.
    • Healthy / never cut a lot of big branches the same year ! The tree is alive if you hurt it a little it will be for the best, and it will be even stronger after. But if you stress it too much it could be weak, and even die. So you need to have plan for your tree for 2/3/4 years if it shape needs to be fully redefined. You can cut on big branch at a time.
    • Protected / when you cut a big branch you need to put a kind of protecting cream that will help the tree to heal Faster. You don’t need to put it on little branches.

    Cleaning

You need to clean the areas around the trees, so you can see if there is still something to cut or not.

We advice you to have a little chipper machine so you can use the grinding into  your compost (only the branches if the leaves are too fresh) ! It will be a great carbon input.

How much ? If you do it by yourself it won’t be expensive in long term. You have to invest on good machines and buy the paste to care the healing of the tree.

    Materials :

    • Telescopic cutting tool
    • Chain saw
    • Electric shredder
    • Sequator
    • Protecting cream

How much time ? It depends of course how many trees you have to take care of and if it has ever been cut or not !

The good thing is from years to years it will be easier as you will have take good care of the trees !

Alone you will need at least 1 hour to take care of 1 big tree entirely (cut, healing, cleaning)

  • Απόφαση ΔΣ 1/22-01-2021 – Έγκριση εθελοντικής προσφοράς μη Μελών

  • Good bye, 2020 !

What a year !! 2020 is one of those years that will stay for ever in our memories. Usually, when that happens, it is for bad reasons. And we would want, first of all, to send all our thoughts and love to all of you, who lost a loved one, who lost your breath, your sense of smell, who lost your job, money, a part of your freedom, who missed your trips, your holidays, cherish moments with your family and friends, you who miss the sight of a smile in the street, the hugs, the touching… 2020 has been hard for all of us, for some more than for others but 2020 was also full of joy, full of newborns, new loves, engagements, new friendships and collaborations, 2020 saw the people coming together, helping each other, taking care for each other and making sure their neighbors had everything they needed.

And for us especially, 2020 was a year like no other, the year we could start our new project, slowly, step by step, slowed down by the first and then the second lockdown, by the bad weather, by anything you could imagine but we staid strong and continued, one step at a time, towards our goal. Of course we had help. Local friends but also travelers and volunteers who came from all over the world, going through tests and quarantines to be able to safely come and help, they are the hands without which we wouldn’t be where we are now, the hands but also the hearts and brains. We wanted to thank you, once again! Thank you for all your help, your ideas, your support, your patience and your sense of humor ! We certainly can’t wait to see you back here, when things will be calmer and Joy’ce Kingdom will be flourishing !

So… During those last minutes of the year 2020, we want to wish you all a new, sweet and absolutely incredible year ! Full of love and joy, passion and discoveries, laughter and projects, successes, health and new knowledge, we wish your life to be full of people who make it amazingly beautiful and without the ones pulling you down, we wish you anything that you could wish for the year 2021 and so much more !! We love you all 🙂

  • My first steps in the mountain – By Fanny

My first steps in the mountains were this weekend. The weather was nice and warm and the mountain was clear, a kind of appeasement, confidence and well-being. However I did not imagine the mountain at all like that, I imagined it with less shrub, fern and less slope! But in reality, I find it has all its charm. Before discovering the different projects for the different places, I was wondering how we were going to set up everything. Until Ilektra gave me a tour of the place and simply made me travel. “Here there will be the kitchen, there the playground, here where we are it will be the activities, (…) I can see the bus over there and the vegetable garden here …”. Wow, I can’t explain it but I could see myself there. I could imagine children playing, while volunteers were cooking and another one spinning the washing machine while pedaling a bike! Just a lot of other people motivated, curious and happy by this project, enjoying the benefits and participating in the common life. These first steps, this first weekend, this first night were really nice, a good atmosphere and a great atmosphere hovered in the air just above our heads. We slept in tents and (I have to admit, it was not my best night because I was just sliding on my mattress because our tent was on a big slope…) the alarm clock and the nap were just perfect. The sound of the birds, the sea view, the fresh and soft air, a beautiful landscape, a great sun, great people all around and a good fruit juice! What more could you ask for? I won’t know what to answer except to ask another question: “when are we going back?”.
